Terms and Conditions

Last updated: August 2, 2026

Welcome to GirqOn.

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of the GirqOn mobile application and related library services.

By creating an account or using GirqOn, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree with these Terms, you should not use the service.

1. About GirqOn

GirqOn is a digital library management platform that helps libraries and readers manage borrowing and returning books and related library services.

Through GirqOn, users may be able to:

  • Create and manage a library account
  • View currently borrowed books
  • View return dates
  • Request borrowing-period extensions
  • View extension request status
  • View borrowing history
  • Search or browse books
  • Receive library reminders and notifications
  • Use other services made available by participating libraries

Certain actions, including borrowing and returning physical books, are performed or confirmed by authorized library employees.

2. User Accounts

You must provide accurate information when creating and maintaining your GirqOn account.

You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for activity performed through your account.

You should notify GirqOn or your library if you believe your account has been accessed without authorization.

You may not:

  • Create an account using another person’s identity
  • Provide intentionally false or misleading information
  • Access another user’s account without permission
  • Attempt to interfere with or bypass GirqOn’s security or identification systems
  • Use GirqOn for fraudulent, unlawful, or abusive purposes

GirqOn or the participating library may restrict or suspend an account where misuse, fraud, security concerns, or serious violations of library rules are identified.

3. Library Membership

Creating a GirqOn account does not necessarily guarantee access to every library or every library service.

Participating libraries may have their own membership requirements, operating rules, age requirements, identification requirements, and borrowing policies.

Where a participating library’s rules apply to a particular library service, users are expected to follow those rules in addition to these Terms.

4. Face Recognition

Participating libraries may use a dedicated face recognition device to identify registered users during in-person library operations.

This system is separate from Face ID, fingerprint authentication, or other biometric authentication provided by your mobile device.

A library employee may assist you in associating a face profile with your GirqOn account.

Once configured, the face recognition system may be used to locate or confirm your account when performing library operations, including borrowing books.

Face recognition is used for identification within participating library operations and must not be used to impersonate another person, bypass account restrictions, or otherwise misuse the service.

Information about how facial recognition data is processed is provided in the GirqOn Privacy Policy.

Where required by applicable law or library policy, an alternative identification method may be available for users who do not use face recognition.

5. Book Identification

Physical books may contain NFC tags that identify individual book copies within GirqOn.

NFC tags are used for books and are not issued to users as identification cards.

Authorized library employees may scan these tags when processing borrowing, returns, inventory, or other library operations.

Users must not intentionally remove, damage, replace, modify, copy, or interfere with NFC tags attached to library materials.

6. Borrowing Books

Borrowing is completed when an authorized library employee confirms the transaction in GirqOn.

A typical borrowing transaction may include:

  1. Identifying the user
  2. Scanning one or more books
  3. Reviewing the borrowing information
  4. Confirming the transaction

After confirmation, borrowed books and their expected return dates may appear in the user’s GirqOn account.

Users should review their borrowed books and notify the library if they believe a transaction or return date is incorrect.

7. Borrowing Periods

Borrowing periods are determined by the participating library.

The permitted borrowing period may vary depending on factors such as:

  • The book or type of material
  • The user’s membership or reader category
  • Library policies
  • Special borrowing rules
  • Other conditions configured by the library

The return date displayed in GirqOn represents the return date currently recorded by the library system.

Libraries may change their borrowing policies from time to time.

8. Returning Books

A book is not considered returned solely because it has been physically brought into the library.

The return should be processed and confirmed by an authorized library employee.

During a return, the employee may scan the book’s NFC tag and confirm the transaction in GirqOn.

Once successfully processed, the book should no longer appear as an active borrowing on the user’s account.

Users should inform library staff if they believe a returned book remains incorrectly listed as borrowed.

9. Extension Requests

GirqOn may allow users to request additional time to keep a borrowed book.

Submitting an extension request does not automatically extend the borrowing period.

The request may be reviewed by an authorized library employee and may be approved or rejected based on library rules, book availability, reservations, borrowing history, or other relevant circumstances.

Until an extension is approved, the existing return date remains applicable.

If an extension is approved, GirqOn will display the updated return date.

10. Overdue Books

Users are expected to return borrowed books by their applicable return dates unless an extension has been approved.

GirqOn may record overdue returns as part of the user’s library history.

Participating libraries may use this history when making operational decisions, including approving extensions or determining future borrowing conditions.

GirqOn itself does not automatically impose monetary fines for late returns unless such functionality or policy is introduced and clearly communicated in the future.

A participating library may apply its own rules regarding overdue materials where applicable.

11. Reader History and Reliability

GirqOn may maintain information relating to a user’s borrowing activity, including:

  • Borrowing history
  • Return history
  • Late returns
  • Current overdue books
  • Extension requests
  • Relevant library notes
  • Other information necessary for library operations

Authorized library employees may use this information to assist with library operations and understand a user’s borrowing history.

The existence of borrowing history or reliability information does not guarantee or automatically prevent future borrowing. Decisions remain subject to applicable library rules and authorized staff decisions.

12. Care of Library Materials

Users are expected to take reasonable care of books and other materials borrowed from a library.

Users should not intentionally damage, alter, mark, destroy, or remove identification tags from library materials.

If a book is lost or significantly damaged while borrowed, the user should inform the library.

Any consequences relating to lost or damaged books are determined by the applicable participating library’s policies.

13. Notifications and Reminders

GirqOn may provide reminders and notifications relating to:

  • Upcoming return dates
  • Overdue books
  • Extension requests
  • Library announcements
  • Account-related information

Notifications are provided as a convenience.

Failure to receive a notification does not automatically extend a borrowing period or remove the user’s responsibility to return a book by its recorded return date.

Users can view their current borrowing information and return dates within GirqOn.

14. Availability of Books

Information about book availability is based on records maintained within GirqOn.

While we aim to keep this information accurate, the availability displayed in the application may occasionally differ from the physical situation in the library because of processing delays, incorrect scans, inventory issues, technical problems, or other circumstances.

Displaying a book as available does not guarantee that the book can be borrowed.

15. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to GirqOn
  • Interfere with the operation or security of the service
  • Attempt to manipulate borrowing or return records
  • Attempt to manipulate face recognition or NFC identification
  • Reverse engineer or misuse the application except where permitted by law
  • Use automated systems to abuse or overload the service
  • Upload or transmit malicious software
  • Use GirqOn in violation of applicable law

We may restrict access where necessary to protect GirqOn, participating libraries, other users, or the integrity of library records.

16. Service Availability

We aim to keep GirqOn available and reliable, but uninterrupted operation cannot be guaranteed.

The service may occasionally be unavailable because of:

  • Maintenance
  • Software updates
  • Internet or network problems
  • Hardware failures
  • Face recognition or NFC equipment issues
  • Third-party service interruptions
  • Security incidents
  • Circumstances outside our reasonable control

Libraries may use alternative procedures when GirqOn or connected equipment is temporarily unavailable.

17. Changes to the Service

GirqOn may evolve over time.

We may add, change, suspend, or remove features where reasonably necessary to improve the service, address security or operational requirements, comply with legal obligations, or support participating libraries.

Significant changes affecting users may be communicated through the application or other appropriate channels.

18. Intellectual Property

The GirqOn application, including its software, design, branding, graphics, interfaces, and original content, is protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

Except where expressly permitted, users may not copy, distribute, modify, sell, license, reverse engineer, or commercially exploit GirqOn or its content.

Ownership of books, book descriptions, cover images, and other third-party materials remains with their respective owners.

19. Third-Party Services

Certain GirqOn functionality may rely on third-party technologies or service providers, including infrastructure, notification, analytics, authentication, or hardware-related services.

The availability of these services may be subject to their respective terms and technical limitations.

Information about third-party processing of personal information is addressed in the GirqOn Privacy Policy where applicable.

20. Privacy

Your use of GirqOn is also subject to the GirqOn Privacy Policy.

The Privacy Policy explains what personal information may be collected, how it is used, how face recognition information is handled, and what rights may be available to users.

21. Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, GirqOn is provided on an “as available” basis.

We take reasonable steps to maintain accurate information and reliable operation but cannot guarantee that the service will always be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely accurate.

GirqOn is not responsible for losses resulting solely from circumstances outside its reasonable control, including internet outages, third-party service failures, device failures, or temporary library equipment problems.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where such exclusion or limitation is prohibited by applicable law.

22. Account Suspension or Termination

Access to GirqOn may be restricted or suspended if a user:

  • Seriously or repeatedly violates these Terms
  • Attempts to manipulate library records
  • Uses another person’s identity or account
  • Attempts to compromise the security of GirqOn
  • Uses the service unlawfully
  • Creates a material risk to the service, library, or other users

Where appropriate, users may contact the library or GirqOn regarding restrictions applied to their account.

Termination or deletion of a GirqOn account does not necessarily remove outstanding library obligations or records that the library is legally or operationally required to retain.

23. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms when GirqOn functionality, library operations, or applicable requirements change.

If we make significant changes, users may be notified through the application or another appropriate method.

Continued use of GirqOn after updated Terms become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms to the extent permitted by applicable law.

24. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable to the entity operating GirqOn and the participating library, including applicable laws of the Republic of Armenia where relevant.

Any mandatory rights available to users under applicable law remain unaffected.
